Youth Group Waffle Bar Date Night

Recently our church youth group held a group date with a waffle bar.  I was lucky enough to be a part of it so I'll share how it all went down so you can recreate this really fun date night for any age.  We started with long tables covered in brown craft paper.  Then decorated the area around with some fabric pennants that I had made for another event.  Then we placed four waffle irons on the paper and all the toppings.  One of the young women wrote with a black sharpie instructions and labeled the syrups and toppings. Long tables were set up in a U shape.  We found these to work better than rounds since everyone was closer together and their dates sat right across from them.  The tables were also covered with brown craft paper and simple mason jars and flowers were added for decor.  Groups of sharpies of all colors Read more [...]

Printable Baptism Programs

This last weekend my third son Sam was baptized.  It was a very sweet and exciting day for all of us.  He couldn't wait to turn 8 and was beaming the entire day. Since this is my third son's baptism, and I served in our Primary as the secretary for a few years, I have made pleanty of baptism programs.  I thought I'd share this simple layout that you can print yourself. I started out by having three programs to a single sheet of cardstock (or paper).  I selected a simple image of Jesus and John the Baptist and fit it across the bottom.  With a brown border and blue "Californian FB" font (which you probably already have) things are clean and focused on the baptism, not the child. I printed them on my home ink jet printer on some pearl card stock that my mother in law gifted me.  I love the soft iridescent shine Read more [...]

Girl On Fire {2013 YW Bulletin Board}

While hunting around on Pinterest, I found a great site called "Better than we Deserve" where Ramona made "Girl on Fire" t-shirts for YW camp.  I loved the idea of merging pop culture (The Hunger Games books) and the gospel.  I think it grabs the girls interests and transforms it into a new way of looking at the world.  Anyway, I took Ramona's idea and turned it into our bulletin board for 2013. You probably recognize the logo in the center, it is the Young Woman torch that has been around forever.  I also found a pin on Pinterest that called the logo "The Original Girl on Fire".  Below the torch are matches or what I call fire starters.  The Young Women are on fire with the Holy Ghost and the matches are ways they can start their fire or keep it burning strong and bright.  All of the values are listed as well as a Read more [...]

I am a Mormon Printable

You may or may not know that I am a Mormon.  This weekend is a great time for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because it is our semi-annual conference   This is when we listen to our Prophet and his twelve apostles and other great leaders.  A talk that was given Saturday morning by Ann Dibb was particularly fabulous (follow THIS LINK to hear her talk).  Here is a free printable I created based on her words.  Feel free to download it and use how you'd like.  I created it to be printed as an 8X10, 8.5X11 or 5X7. {Click HERE for the high res version in light 8X10} {Click HERE for the high res version in light for 5X7 or 8.5X11} {Click HERE for the high res version in dark for 8X10} {Click HERE for the high res version in dark for 5X7 or 8.5X11} To learn more about Mormons, click Read more [...]

2012 Young Women in Excellence: Arise and Shine Forth invitation and program

It is that time again for Young Women in Excellence.  I've come up with a simple invitation and program I'm sharing here.  It all started when my friend Belinda from Belinda's Great Ideas came up with a great Arise and Shine Forth logo that I used for my invitations and program {check out her amazing talents HERE}.  Below is the invitation, laid out four to a page (Download the Publisher file HERE). My mother in law saved some paper scraps from her job at a printing press and I ran these through my printer on "draft" to save ink.  Because they are black and white, you could also run them off the copier at your ward's library. Here is the program we will be using (download the Publisher file HERE).  Because of the donated paper, I made the program two to a regular sheet of paper. The program is also going to be Read more [...]

YW Personal Progress Instagram Poster

Looking for a new fun way to display your YW Personal Progress?  How about a poster or bulletin board like the social media site Instagram?  Recently our Stake President asked each ward's YW leaders to provide a poster showing what the young women of our wards were working on for personal progress and include a photo of each girl.  It would be displayed at a stake picnic.  I decided to take up the challenge. I wanted something fun but didn't know quite where it would take me.  I grabbed my SLR camera and headed to church.  Most of the girls did not want there picture taken.  I found this quite comical since I follow many of them on Instagram and they can't STOP taking photos of themselves and posting them.  So, I began prompting them "two of you get close and pretend I'm taking a picture for Instagram!".  This Read more [...]

Girls Camp Doodle Rocks

After snooping around Pinterest, I found these great decorated rocks for sale on Etsy.  I decided to let the girls creativity come out and decorate their own.  We brought up the "Prayer Rock" poem and explained the girls could use them to help them remember to say their prayers, or they could just doodle.  I purchased two bags of rocks from the Dollar Store, one light one dark.  I also bought "Extra Fine" black Sharpie permanent ink at the Dollar Store as well.  A quick run to Hobby Lobby for a few white Paint Sharpies, the finer the better. Here are a few of the sample rocks my boys and I made to show the girls. This is a really easy simple craft that is a great filler for extra time at camp or a rainy day activity.   Linked Up: Tatertots & Jello Read more [...]

Girls Camp Tie Dyes

Whenever I go to a city fair or carnival I am always drawn in by the bright crisp tie dyes that hang from the canopies and are usually sold by some funky hippies.  A slight tinge on jealousy always lingers knowing how many times I have tried to make awesome tie dyes but failed miserably.  You see in high school, my friend Nicole and I had a great plan to make some rad t-shirts for ourselves.  We bought loads of R.I.T. dye and started making awesome designs in a bunch of t's.  After the dye set for a few minutes, we unwrapped them and exposed our awesomeness.  Unfortunately those awesome designs turned into faded muddy messes every time we rinsed or washed our creations.  Well, never again.  I found a kit (thanks to our regional YW camp meeting) that does all it promises and then some. The Tie Dye Kit There Read more [...]

New Beginnings Game Night

In February we held our annual New Beginnings activity.  This year we mixed things up a bit and had a "Game Night".  Here are the invitations I made up: I left the date, time etc off the template.  Simply place a text box in the open space to add YOUR info. If you would like to download the template for the Game Night invitations click HERE  NOTE: The template is a photo of the tickets, just blow it up so the gray line meets the boarder of your page layout. I made a similar layout for the program that we handed out at New Beginnings. If you would like to download the Game Night program click HERE for the front and HERE for the back side NOTE: I printed the invitations AND the programs on a cream opalescent card stock and it turned out awesome.  It gave it a very vintage carnival feel.  If you Read more [...]

New Beginnings: An Invitation and Program for Young Women

For everyone in the Young Women's organization New Beginnings is right around the corner.  It is a great time when we welcome new12 year old girls into the Young Women program.  I made up an invitation and program if anyone would like to use it.  When I think of new beginnings and young women, a plants always come to mind.  I incorporataed a tree showing what they could become as they follow the YW program.  A theme from our stake last year was also incorporated into the bottom corner "Live Like You Believe". I made this very inexpensive to reproduce.  I made it all in shades of gray so that it could be printed on your libraries copy machine.  Instead of plain white paper, I suggest (and used) a cream peralescent cardstock.  You can find it at JoAnn's.  It comes in a tear pad of 25 sheets, 8.5Xll and is heavy weight. Pinlight: 2012 Young Women’s Bulletin Board

The Young Women's theme for 2012 is D & C 115:5. "Arise and shine forth that thy light may be a standard to the Nations" This is a mock up of the bulletin board I came up with: (laid out on my black kitchen island. It will look better on the gray/tan board in our class room) Let me break it down for you.  I called it "Pinlight" in refrence to Pinterest.  (If you don't know what Pinterest is, check out a Post I wrote HERE)   I made the board creater Jesus Christ.  He has had aproxamatly 2.2 billion followers (according to Wikipedia) and he follows You (everyone).  To follow him I made social icon buttons for prayer, scripture study, and the temple. I made up around 60 "pins".  Each one has a photo with a label below it.  I used the YW Values, For the Strength of Youth, LDS.org, and this years lesson schedule to Read more [...]
